"In the Spirit of Christmas ."

       Date          :  13^th December 2003

                           Venue       :  Canal View Restaurant ,Negombo.

                                                 Time         :  7.30 p.m.

       This was our annual Leo Lion Christmas Dinner meeting. Negombo Leos, - Leos  of         Raddolugama were present. – Members of the Thammita church choir also joined us in the Christmas Carol session.

Leo Suranga Fernanado, took a lot of responsibility and worked with full dedication in training the Negombo Leos and also in printing the Christmas carols books.

The president especially thanked the thammita church choir for their help and extended the support of the L/C of Negombo for any of their activities.

Also in the Leo –lion relationshiop 3 leos attended the Lions Dinner meeting for the month of November. This was mainly for a discussion with the Lions about the Leo Lion cricket match. 

  "Sun Sea and a clean beach”

                                           Project category  :   Service project

   Date                   :    21^st December 2003

   Venue                :   Negombo Beach area

  This project targets a cleaner Negombo. 10 Leos and 1 prospective Leo were at this project.     Leo Dilan Rodrigo was the project chairman.

  We chose an area without much crowd but is very unclean. Here our aim was not in publicity for   the club but a cleaner environment.

We went about cleaning up a long stretch of beach area and two hours later it was totally transformed from the unclean beach it was, all thanked to the Leo club of Negombo.

    " Remembering the Departed"

       Date                   : 1st November 2003

                                               Venue                 : Periyamulla Cemetery ,Negombo.

This was a special project organized by Leo Dilan Rodrigo with the kind approval of the parish Priest of “ Our Lady of Snow” church of Periyamulla. Nine Leos and Prospective Leo Participated.

Before our clean up the whole cemetery was covered with weeds almost knee high. Though it was hard we untiringly cleaned up the cemetery under the blazing sun. Our project was highly praised by the priest and said that the negombo Leos selflessly gave themselves and their time to a valuable cause.

This event was not only a project. But it also gave us food for thought. It was somewhat a bittersweet day as the project was success but it also reminded us that death one day awaits all of us.

“Negombo Leos Go Green”

                                     Project category     : Environmental project.  

                                          Date                 : 12^th  October 03.

Venue                : Kadolana Grounds.

The L/c of Negombo being a strong service oriented team, this time decided to take a step to save our world by ‘going -green’; Under the guidance of project. Chairman Leo Kasun Fernando, we planted 15 Benjamina trees around the ground.

This step was greatly appreciated by our home team, ‘Negombo . Leos Cricket club’. Leo Paul Leema, a long standing Leo, promised to take care of the trees whenever possible as his residence is closer to the grounds he also suggested a large scale tree planting project, with the Environmental Authority.

We believe that our project did help, even in the least. In the long run protecting ourselves from disaster that would ultimately come if we don’t protect our trees.

Negombo Leos Friendship Cricket match.

Project category: Entertainment Project

Date           : 26^th October 2003

Venue         : Kadolkale Grounds

 This event was organized by the Executive board of the club, especially in hope of uniting and bringing out the true spirit of sportsmanship among the Negombo Leos.

With the participation of 13 Leos and 1 prospective Leo ,it was a 6 a side 20 over match.

The winning team was awarded a small gift.

Though this event was conducted in a small scale it proved to be very effective in reuniting and strengthening the bend among us.
